As AMJ and Leo began their research, it soon became evident that burying their noses in books wasn't going to be enough. They wanted to be in the places Lucy Maud Montgomery lived and worked for themselves and not just look at pictures from 60-100 years ago. So, when a meeting was scheduled with The Heirs of L.M. Montgomery in February 2006, they took it upon themselves to visit LMM's three Ontario homes - Leaskdale (1911-1926), Norval (1926-1935, now Halton Hills), and Swansea (1935-1942, now a suburb of Toronto). They also found even more books to bury their noses in as they studied literary analysis and music. Still without a title, but with even more ideas and information than before, their concept for the musical started to take shape.

Once and for all, it's Leaskdale, not Leaksdale!

The manse where LMM had her children and wrote 11 of her 22 books.

AMJ was happy to finally make it to Leaskdale - and see snow!

St. Paul's Presbyterian Church up the street, where Rev. Ewan Macdonald (LMM's husband) preached.

Leo braved the 25F temperatures admirably.

The University of Guelph, a treasure trove of LMM memorabilia and information where AMJ and Leo spent hours studying.

Halton Hills has another, more famous identity.

The manse at Norval where LMM wrote several more books.

The Presbyterian Church in Norval and its manse. At least Rev. Ewan didn't have far to go to work!

The library in downtown Toronto where Leo combed through records to research period Canadian sounds.

Journey's End in the Swansea district of Toronto. LMM wrote the last two Anne books here before she died in 1942.
