The Nine Lives of L.M. Montgomery had its official premiere at Kings Playhouse in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island on June 20, 2008 - the exact 100th anniversary of the publication of "Anne of Green Gables" - and ran 28 shows until August 3, 2008. The show was featured on Japan's NHK network, and made history as the first musical to be based on Maud's life. Plus, for opening night, the role of former Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell, who declared Maud a Canadian of National Importance in 1948, was played by his son, former Prince Edward Island Premier Alexander B. Campbell. Nine Lives underwent a rewrite preceding its more colourful and concise second season, which opened July 11, 2009 at the Carrefour Theatre in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It ran 21 shows until the season's finale August 21, 2009. Owing to Maud's experience with chronic depression, and her husband's with bipolar disorder, half the proceeds from the August 14 performance were donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association in an effort to help reduce stigma and promote mental health.
