Welcome to ninelivesoflmm.com, the
official site for The Nine Lives
of L.M. Montgomery, a musical
celebrating the life and characters of Canada's legendary author! L.M. Montgomery is best known for her first book, the 1908
Anne of Green
Gables, which popularized her native
Prince Edward Island, and, to this day attracts thousands of
tourists. However, Maud wrote 19 other books centering on a total
of eight heroines - Anne, Kilmeny, Sara, Emily, Valancy, Marigold,
Pat, and Jane. Add Maud's own complicated
life to those of her fictional octet and you get
The Nine Lives of L.M.
Montgomery! Emmy-nominated composer Leo Marchildon and author Adam-Michael James are the creative team behind the epic 60-year journey that is part biography, part fantasy. Real-life characters and fictional heroines join Maud in front of video footage and archival photos of the Canadian locales that inspired her in a colourful, compelling study of the positive - and negative - power of the imagination. All eight Montgomery heroines come to life in a book cover featuring their actual book titles - then take the stage to amuse and enlighten Maud herself! Lively production numbers and soaring ballads take you from the Scottish influences of her 1880s childhood all the way to the Big Band sound of the 1940s, and Marchildon's luxurious underscore gives the whole show a cinematic feel. Only a multimedia experience such as this could encapsulate all of Maud's nine lives! A full year of meticulous research was conducted before the first word or note was ever written: Maud's novels, her journals, interviews with respected LMM scholars and descendants - no stone was left unturned. The musical - which bears the full approval of the Heirs of L.M. Montgomery - had its world premiere on Prince Edward Island in 2008 on the exact 100th anniversary of the publication of Anne of Green Gables, and has been praised not only for its historical accuracy, but for its importance to Canada and literature. Critics have called The Nine Lives of L.M. Montgomery "unique and entertaining", and "engaging and clever" - audiences have hailed it "a stunning achievement", calling the music and lyrics "tremendous" and saying it "should become a classic!" ninelivesoflmm.com invites you to stay a while and explore all things Nine Lives! • In the spirit of Maud, there's an on-line Journal that has chronicled the musical's process since its inception - complete with pictures and video, and hosted by Blogspot! • The Gallery is chock-full of photos - everything from research trips to rehearsals and production stills from both the 2008 and 2009 shows! • Track the history of Nine Lives with the comprehensive Timeline. • See and hear the show's media coverage on the Press page: newspaper, television, radio - it's all here! • Check out the Bio to get a better idea of the talented men behind the musical! • Check out cast and memorabilia from the 2008 and 2009 productions on the Shows page! • Last stop, The Original Cast Album in the Store - complete with audio samples to tempt you!
